Cymuned Mawddwy

website

This area is situated in south east Gwynedd, and within the Meirion Dwyfor constituency. This is the upper reaches of the Dyfi Valley, extending from Aberangell to Mallwyd and to Dinas Mawddwy, up to Llanymawddwy and Bwlch y Groes. The A470 trunk road runs through the parishes to Bwlch yr Oerddrws, and the A458 through Cwm Dugoed to Bwlch y Fedwen (which was home to the Red Bandits of Mawddwy) in the direction of Welshpool. This is the welsh countryside at its best, predominantly welsh speaking, and with a vibrant cultural and social life. The area is well worth a visit. It is sparsely populated, with agriculture being the main employer.
